Mission Statement
The Department of Pharmacy Practice is dedicated to providing excellence in the education of pharmacy students and pharmacists, enabling them to provide quality pharmaceutical care, and to serving the community through clinical practice, education, and research.
We envision a department recognized nationally for its quality of education
and assessment of student outcomes.
Goals
Teaching
To provide students with high-quality education and training.
Objectives:
To meet the goal stated above, the department will:
- provide faculty with opportunities for personal
and professional development, including:periodic teaching seminars
and workshops.
- attendance at professional and continuing education meetings.
- conduct ongoing assessment of student learning in didactic and
professional experience programs.
- develop post-graduate residency training programs.
- utilize innovative teaching techniques for
active learning.
- perform ongoing curricular review to provide
for contemporary and future practice.
Service
To provide professional service to the College, University, and Community
consistent with the professional expertise of department faculty and the
needs of affiliated institutions.
Objectives:
To meet the goal stated above, the department
will:
- participate in the organization and presentation
of continuing education programs for practicing pharmacists and other
health care professionals.
- maintain affiliations with and provide clinical
services to appropriate health care facilities and professional organizations.
- participate in professional organizations,
including state pharmacy organizations.
- participate in and contribute to university
governance and college and department activities.
- encourage involvement in community and charitable
organizations.
- support the Institute for Pharmaceutical Care.
Research
To encourage and conduct research in areas consistent with the professional
activities and interests of department faculty.
Objectives:
To meet the goals stated above, the department will:
- contribute to the professional pool of knowledge
through publication of research results, teaching methods, and/or
professional practices.
- provide, insofar as possible, space, equipment,
budget, and time for research activities.
- provide faculty with opportunities for
personal and professional development, including:
- professional and scientific seminars
- developmental leave
- attendance at professional and scientific
meetings
- opportunity for clinical practice and/or
research development
- afford interested and qualified undergraduate
students the opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects.
- perform cooperative research with interested
individuals of the College, University, and Community.
- solicit extramural funding for research, equipment,
student support and/or technical assistance.
